Community Service Opportunity

St. Catherine's  & Gloria Dei are hosting a Community Thanksgiving Dinner at St. Catherine's on Saturday, October 12 in the evening. There may be over 200 people attending this dinner.

The organizers are asking for youth and young adult volunteers to help out by waiting tables. Serving starts at 6pm and you should remember to eat before arriving. Things should wind up by about 8:30pm.

Please let me know if you are interested in participating in this opportunity to connect with people in North Vancouver.

Fall Youth Event

We are scheduled to hold a Fall youth Event!

Who: Youth of all ages
What: Dinner, games, worship, & pumpkin carving
Where: St. Catherine's Anglican Church
When: Sunday, October 27th from 4pm until 6:30
Why: to get to know one another
How: each parish will be responsible for contributing to the evening

We will start at 4pm with some Ice-Breakers & Getting-To-Know-You Games.
We'll have a competition to Name the North Vancouver Regional Youth Ministry.
We'll have Dinner at 5pm.
We'll have an Evening Prayer Service at 6pm and then go home!

We need each church to volunteer to provide for different aspects of the afternoon. Volunteers can be parents, youth, and/or other interested parties. There are seven jobs and seven churches so that works out nicely.

We need:
dinner (maybe spaghetti & sauce)
salads
dessert (fruit? pumpkin pie? cookies?)
beverages (juice? milk? maybe no pop?)
set-up (maybe St. Catherine's should take this on as the host church)
clean-up
pumpkins for carving

Food should mostly be prepared in the kitchen at the church. We will have access earlier in the afternoon if necessary.

I (Rev. Andrew Halliday) have, as of October 1, received only partial contact information for the youth in the region. This means that clergy and youth leaders (and other interested parties) must take responsibility for contacting the youth in their churches. Put it in the leaflet! Make some phone calls! Send some texts! I will create a poster and drop one off at each parish in the next week.

This is so exciting! I can't wait to get everyone in the same room at the same time.

Urgent Request from Mount Olivet Church

EMERGENCY SWEATER DRIVE
FOR SYRIAN REFUGEES

As the devastation of the Syrian civil war continues to unfold, refugees living at the Za’atari refugee camp are bracing themselves for another harsh winter.  A housing shortage, lack of appropriate clothing and a demanding climate can make life extremely difficult for families that have fled the violence.  At the request of our partners, Canadian Lutheran World Relief will be dispatching a second shipment to support Syrian refugees living in Jordan, and we need your help.

Our goal is to gather 10,000+ sweaters this fall and dispatch them in time for winter.  Sweaters of all sizes are needed, for men, women and children.

We at Mount Olivet Lutheran Church in North Vancouver encourage everyone to help us reach this goal.

We are asking you for new and gently used sweaters that are cleaned.  You can gather the sweaters (mens, womens and childrens) place them in a box with your name on the front of the box and drop them off at Mt. Olivet Lutheran church.

Where:
Mt. Olivet Lutheran church, 1700 Mountain Highway, North Vancouver
Time:
The church is open Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 9:00 a.m. until 12:00
Or you may leave your box outside under the canopy on the parking lot side of the church.

Mt. Olivet will rebox, properly supply shipping labels and deliver to home hardware.  Home hardware then takes care of getting the shipment to the Lutheran World Relief’s warehouse in Winnipeg and they are responsible for getting it to “Za’atari refugee camp.  All boxes must get to the warehouse no later than October 31st.

Note:  all sweaters must be delivered to the church by October 20th at the latest******

Today, your help is needed again to provide warmth and dignity for those who have survived unspeakable hardships.  Together we will make a difference.
